ARGENTINA - En octubre se cumplen ya siete años de la ruptura TARJA TURUNEN - NIGHTWISH, y también de la famosa carta abierta posteada en el website de la banda, con la que se puso punto final a la historia. Pero la soprano no se quedó de brazos cruzados y comenzó una carrera solista, que ya consta con tres trabajos de estudio, Henkäys Ikuisuudesta (2006), My Winter Storm (2007), What Lies Beneath (2010), y con el reciente DVD/CD, ACT I: Live in Rosario, grabado en el Teatro El Círculo. Desde su residencia en Argentina, TARJA atiende el teléfono, con su dulzura característica, con su 90% de español y 10% de inglés, y dejando en claro que como dice su tema “I Walk Alone", “Vayan y díganle al mundo que todavía sigo acá.”
-¿Cómo fue que de todas las ciudades que visitaste en tu gira anterior, terminaste eligiendo Rosario para grabar tu primer DVD?
-Rosario es linda, el año pasado hicimos un concierto en ese mismo Teatro (El círculo), tuve la suerte de conocer el lugar y por eso lo elegimos, porque es muy hermoso, con un escenario suficientemente grande para la producción que yo necesito para mi show, y empezamos a organizar todo en ese mismo momento, por eso lo elegimos, por el teatro.
-Rosario es linda, el año pasado hicimos un concierto en ese mismo Teatro (El círculo), tuve la suerte de conocer el lugar y por eso lo elegimos, porque es muy hermoso, con un escenario suficientemente grande para la producción que yo necesito para mi show, y empezamos a organizar todo en ese mismo momento, por eso lo elegimos, por el teatro.
-Te definiste varias veces como una workaholic, ¿cómo fue preparar todo lo relacionado a ACT I?
-No fue nada fácil, porque tuvimos que llevar todas las cosas para la producción de Buenos Aires hasta Rosario, porque en Rosario no tenían nada y el teatro tampoco, entonces tuvimos que llevar las luces y todo para la producción. Y fue complicado también, porque el teatro tenía programado los ensayos para la ópera y tuvimos que armar y desarmar mi escenario muchísimas veces para poder filmar, no fue fácil, pero zafamos…
-En el setlist incluiste 4 covers, "Still of the Night" (Whitesnake), "The Phantom of the Opera" (Andrew Lloyd Webber), "Over The Hills And Far Away" (Gary Moore), y "Nemo (NIGHTWISH)", ¿por qué los elegiste?
-Quería que mis dos discos estén bien representados en mi primer DVD, eso era lo más importante, y “Nemo” como es mi único éxito con mi anterior banda (NIGHTWISH), me parece que tenía que estar, además siempre me gustó la canción. Los covers de Whitesnake, el de Ankie Bagger (N. de la R: que forma parte de un medley) y los demás, la idea era divertir a la gente, no hacer chistes, pero que la gente disfrute, que vea cómo siento la música, y hacer una fiesta.
-Recién hablabas de “Nemo” que es el único tema de NIGHTWISH en el DVD, ¿eso marca que te enfocaste en vos misma y que ese es el camino que elegiste para seguir adelante y cerrar una etapa que quedó atrás?
-Siempre hago canciones de NIGHTWISH, me gustan las canciones de NIGHTWISH, pero es así, hace siete años que soy una artista, hago una o dos canciones en mis conciertos, pero la gente no viene con la expectativa de escuchar eso, no vienen a mis shows para escuchar esas canciones. Pero los músicos siempre tenemos esas cosas, hicimos varios arreglos musicales y él me ayudó muchísimo. Estamos componiendo juntos para el próximo disco; me encanta como es Julián, un tipo muy amable y lo quiero mucho.
-Hablando puntualmente de tus disco solistas, My Winter Storm y What Lies Beneath tienen esa potencia que te caracteriza, pero están más enfocados en tu voz y se distancian un poco del power metal que hacías con NIGHTWISH, ¿eso es algo que se fue dando con la composición o estaba planificado?
-No, mi música no es power metal, no me gusta el power metal, mi música es mucho más rock que heavy metal y tiene muchos elementos de música clásicas, de pop también, pero no tiene mucho que ver con el heavy metal. En mis discos hay canciones que no tienen ni guitarras pesadas..
-Por eso, de alguna forma te alejaste del sonido de NIGHTWISH…
-Sí, porque no estoy en una banda, soy una artista con libertad, estoy componiendo mis canciones, entonces ahora todo se trata de mi música y eso es lo importante y es diferente.
-ACT I adelanta dos temas de lo que será tu nuevo disco (“Into the sun” – “Never Enough”) que al igual que el anterior, va a ser producido por vos misma, ¿cómo es trabajar de productora con lo perfeccionista que sos y qué podés contarnos del álbum?
-Sí, soy perfeccionista como dijiste… soy perfeccionista, pero me encanta la libertad que tengo hoy, es increíble. Esa libertad, para poder elegir los músicos o la gente en general para trabajar, es un privilegio dentro de la música, que es mi vida, mi estilo de vida. Entonces producir mis canciones, mis álbumes, me resulta fácil, porque tengo una muy buena relación con mis músicos, nos conocemos y venimos haciendo música hace mucho, no es difícil, hacer arreglos en el estudio o en casa, y tampoco hablar sobre los temas, pero tengo que tener gente que me ayude.
-¿El disco ya tiene nombre?
(Risas) -No, no tiene nombre todavía, es la primera vez que no tiene nombre, ya estamos produciendo y grabamos baterías, guitarras, bajo y ahora estamos grabando teclados, coros y una orquesta sinfónica. Mi voz la vamos a grabar en enero, entonces la producción nos va a llevar mucho tiempo, hasta el año que viene, y creo que podemos lanzar el disco en septiembre, octubre. Los elementos son los mismos que en mis últimos álbumes, “guitarras heavy”, y también cosas orquestadas, bien dinámico.
-Tu última colaboración fue en el tema "The Good Die Young" de Scorpions, ¿con qué artista te gustaría trabajar tanto en la escena de la música clásica como en la del heavy metal?
-Esa es mi carrera, estoy haciendo muchos conciertos de música clásica, y empezando una gira con un proyecto que se llama “Beauty and the Beat" con Mike Terrana, mi baterista; estamos tocando con un coro y una orquesta sinfónica, Mike en batería y yo canto. En general me gusta trabajar mucho con artistas o con otras bandas y siempre aprendo algo nuevo de esos proyectos, entonces estoy muy abierta a hacer música con otra gente, como con Scorpions o Peter Gabriel. El año pasado hicimos varios conciertos juntos en Finlandia con José Cura, un cantante argentino, me encantan esos proyectos, son muy importantes para mi carrera.
-Tu historia musical es algo particular, a los 3 años diste tu primer show y a los 6 estabas tocando piano, de alguna manera estaba destinada a ser cantante…
-Estoy tocando mucho piano y estoy componiendo mucho con el piano, estoy en un buen momento, ahora siento que estoy libre y feliz con mi carrera artística y es un privilegio. Hoy en día muchos artistas sufren mucho porque el negocio no está nada fácil, y menos para las bandas nuevas, yo siento que soy una privilegiada para poder hacer una carrera internacional.
-Y haber empezado de tan chica, fue marcando tu destino….
-Siempre quise ser cantante, a los 6 empecé a tocar el piano pero siempre cantaba, era una locura. Con mi profesor hicimos muchos conciertos cuando tenía 10 años, 12 años, 14 años y participé de muchos shows yo sola, cantando en iglesias. Por eso la gente ya me conocía en Finlandia desde muy joven.
-¿Cuánta ejercitación y cuidado requiere tu voz siendo una soprano?
(Suspiro) -Es mucho trabajo diario, tengo que hacer mis ejercicios de respiración, tengo que vocalizar casi todos los días, en casa puedo relajarme y estar tranquila. Esa es mi vida acá, en Argentina, estoy trabajando mucho con mi voz... Tengo una profesora que me ayuda mucho, la estoy viendo cada dos semanas y es muy importante para seguir progresando como cantante.
-¿Estás sufriendo mucho con tu querido San Lorenzo?
-Sí (risas), sí, sufriendo un poco, pero ganamos el último partido (San Lorenzo 2 – Colón 1). Soy fanática, claro que si, es algo que vino con el matrimonio, así que Marcelo (Cabuli) tiene la culpa…

-This is my career, I'm doing many classical concerts and a tour starting with a project called "Beauty and the Beat" with Mike Terrana, my drummer, we're playing with a choir and a symphony orchestra, Mike on drums and I sing. Overall I like working a lot with other bands or artists and I always learn something new from these projects, then I am very open to making music with other people, as with Scorpions or Peter Gabriel. Last year we did several concerts together in Finland with José Cura, an Argentine singer, I love these projects are very important for my career.
-Your musical history is something particular to three years gave your first show and 6 were playing piano, was somehow destined to be a singer ...
-I'm playing piano and composing much much with the piano, I'm at a good time, now I feel I am free and happy with my career and it is a privilege. Today many artists suffer much because business is not easy, and less for new bands, I feel that I am privileged to be able to make an international career.

I always wanted to be a singer, at 6 I started playing the piano but always sang, it was crazy. With my teacher did many concerts when he was 10 years, 12 years, 14 years and participated in many shows myself, singing in churches. So people knew me from a young age in Finland.
- How much you exercise and care required to be a soprano voice?
(Sigh)-is much daily work I have to do my breathing exercises, I have to vocalize almost every day, at home I can relax and be calm. That's my life here in Argentina, I'm working a lot with my voice ... I have a teacher who helps me, I see it every two weeks and is very important for further progress as a singer.
- Are you suffering a lot with your beloved San Lorenzo?
