INTERVIEW IN ENGLISH
TARJA TURUNEN's guitarist, gives us an exclusive interview for MUNDO TARJISTA and this was what he told us:
MUNDO TARJISTA: When you entered a Lörihen, do you have imagined you'd get to share the stage with legendary bands such as Judas Priest, Stratovarius or Rhapsody?
JULIÁN BARRETT: «LOL! very funny, but I did not think of anything, for among the band in 2000 just 3 weeks before the presentation of Lörihen with Stratovarius, so I knew from before that came about few international shows. The illusion was always getting high. Fortunately Lorihen was the last bands that grew up in the national metal scene without having to pay to play with bigger artists. In that time, it chose the artists or record media for talent, not for who has more money, this sucks horribly today.»
MT: What musician have influenced your career?
J.B.: «The guitarists that most influenced my playing are, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Steve Ray Vaughan, David Gilmour, Greg Howe, Van Halen, Dimebag Darrell and Norberto "Pappo" Napolitano. Sure I hear other things too, but the most I've ever heard in my life are the mentioned musicians.»
MT: What profession would you consider if it was not the musical one?
J.B.: «I love science, I would have studied science. But I don’t know if I could live of that lol, fortunately I live of my musical carrier since the age of 21, I had odd jobs as a technician for HP printers (laugher), but not for long. If music is not my bread, I would go mad.»
MT: How was composing for Barilari Adrian's solo album? (Rata Blanca)
J.B.: «A wonderful experience. It was the first time I compose for a big artist and with so much recognition. I was nervous at first thinking that my material did not like and maybe be rejected, but fortunately it was not so LOL. I learned many new things in the studio, and also had the freedom to present my views and to work in production. Something that really helped my artistic growth.»
MT: What do you like and what's not on tour?
J.B.: «Being on tour is great, a lot of fun if the human group there is good chemistry. When it does not, is horrible. You have the privilege of visiting cities that maybe if not for the fact of going to a concert, never have visited. Absorb knowledge of other cultures is also important to understand something more global reality. When one is closer to the truth, I think it is closer to happiness as well. So I try to ask questions and chat with the people of each country or city as the political situation in the region, what are the pitfalls etc. The worst thing about being on tour is without a doubt, being away from loved ones, was very surprised, sometimes absent on important dates such as anniversaries, birthdays, etc ... but part of this life you've chosen.»
MT: How do you see yourself in 10 years?
J.B.: «Playing, turning, older, but younger!»
MT: A national and international band?
J.B.: «Cruel Adiccion. AC/DC.»
MT: A guitarist who deeply admire?
J.B.: «To admire deeply, you would know the person behind the guitar, something that hasn't happened so far with any of my favorite guitarists ... So I have only admiration for their work.»
MT: An artist you would like to share the stage…
J.B.: «Many!!! And that I was lucky to share with a lot of artists! I'm missing, Metallica and Megadeth for my carton packed! (laughter) But my biggest dream would be to play on a G3 with Joe (laughter) But of course, that's impossible»
MT: How was the experience of play with TARJA on her way to Latin America?
J.B.: «Very good, excellent I have to say. I have toured many countries great, I have met during the tour to many notable people, and without doubt, have the opportunity of shared the with monsters like Mike Terrana and Doug Wimbish was the icing on the cake.»
MT: How was the adaptation process in musical and personal level within the group?
J.B.: «Personally, at first I was nervous obviously, but little by little with the passing of the hours in the first trial, we started to have fun with music and everything went great ... a few days and I felt a part of the group as long! They are wonderful people and very humble, so I felt very comfortable.»
MT: What is your opinion, after making the tour "WLB America Tour 2011" about followers of TARJA?
J.B.: «A very passionate and very public demonstration, TARJA excited about her fans and see their faces is incredible and the pleasure while listening to singing. TARJA is a great artist, not everyone does that. An honor that I have chosen to play with her, I feel very honored about that.»
MT: What do you think about the prejudice that exists, especially in Latin America, concerning the exercise of the music in a professional manner and to say to a guy or girl who is considering as a career but has no support in his decision?
J.B.: «Being a professional musician, takes more effort to study any university career with immediate departure in terms of work, therefore I would say not to buy the "CONCEPT OF THE ROCK STAR" that no longer exist. They are one in a million accomplish something without effort, and is generally because they have money to pay for advertising and manage themselves, but what they do is a waste. Touch, examine, show themselves all the time. Consisting of a thousand songs, because only 10 of those thousand will be a HIT.»
MT: Do you have a solo project in the near future?
J.B.: «Yeah, an instrumental album with influences mentioned. I love that, just so far not had the time.»
MT: How was the process in studio during the collaboration for "I FEEL IMMORTAL" and as a second guitar on "FALLING AWAKE"?
J.B.: «Well first demo was recording in my HOME STUDIO, to achieve conformity of TARJA and her producer and then went to studio here Osberg THE SHIP in Argentina to record the guitars with the sound technician MARTIN TOLEDO. Were 3 songs that I collaborated on the album. I also record with TARJA a version of STILL OF THE NIGHT. I have to record it all assembled with my Ibanez UV777 with my Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier head and my Digitech Whammy.»
MT: Any message you want to send to your fans through MUNDO TARJISTA?
JB.: «The best waves for interviewing and publicize some of my work! I wait for you in BARILARI, LÖRIHEN, ASSPERA or TARJA Shows! ! ! ! ! !»

El guitarrista de TARJA TURUNEN, nos concedió una entrevista exclusiva para Mundo Tarjista y esto fue lo que nos dijo:
MUNDO TARJISTA: ¿Cuándo ingresaste a Lörihen, ¿te hubieras imaginado que llegarías a compartir escenario con bandas legendarias como JUDAS PRIEST, STRATOVARIUS o RHAPSODY?
JULIÁN BARRETT: «(risas) Es muy curioso, pero no tuve que imaginarme nada, pues entre a la banda en el año 2000 justo 3 semanas antes de la presentación de Lörihen con Stratovarius, por lo tanto ya lo sabía desde antes de entrar a la banda que se venian unos cuantos shows internacionales. La ilusión de llegar alto estuvo siempre. Afortunadamente Lörihen fue de las ultimas bandas que creció en la escena metalera nacional sin necesidad de pagar para tocar con artistas mas grandes. Eran otras épocas. Se elegía a los artistas soportes por talento o trayectoria, no por quién tiene más dinero, esto apesta horriblemente hoy en día.»

MT.: ¿Qué músicos han influenciado tu carrera?
J.B.: «Los guitarristas que más influenciaron mi forma de tocar son, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Steve Ray Vaughan, David Gilmour, Greg Howe, Van Halen, Dimebag Darrell y Norberto "Pappo" Napolitano. Claro que escucho otras cosas también, pero lo que más he escuchado en mi vida son los músicos mencionados.»

MT.: ¿En qué profesión te verías si no hubiese sido la musical?
J.B.: «Me gusta mucho la ciencia, creo que hubiera estudiado ciencia. Pero no se de que viviría (risas). Afortunadamente vivo de la música desde los 21 años, tuve trabajos esporádicos como técnico de impresoras en HP (risas), pero no por mucho tiempo. Si la música no fuera mi pan, creo que enloquecería.»
MT.: ¿Cómo fue componer para el álbum solista de Adrián Barilari? (Rata Blanca)
J.B.: «Una experiencia maravillosa. Era la primera vez que me tocaba componer para un artista tan grande y con tanto reconocimiento. Estaba nervioso al principio de que mi material no cayera con gusto y que fuera rechazado, pero no fue así por suerte (risas). Aprendí muchas cosas nuevas en estudio, y también tuve la libertad de exponer mis opiniones y de colaborar en la producción, cosa que ayudó mucho a mi crecimiento artístico.»

MT.: ¿Qué es lo que te gusta y que es lo que no de las giras?
J.B.: «Estar en un tour es genial, hay mucha diversión si en el grupo humano hay buena química. Cuando esto no sucede, es horrible. Uno tiene el privilegio de conocer ciudades que quizas si no fuera por el hecho de ir a dar un concierto, nunca las hubiera visitado. Absorber conocimiento de otras culturas es algo importante también para comprender mas la realidad global. Cuando uno está mas cerca de la verdad, creo que se esta mas cerca de la felicidad también. Por eso trato de preguntar y charlar con la gente de cada país o ciudad de como esta la situación política en la región, cuáles son las falencias, etc.
Lo peor de estar en tour es sin lugar a dudas, estar lejos de tus seres queridos, se extraña mucho, a veces se está ausente en fechas importantes, como aniversarios, cumpleaños, etc... pero es parte de esta vida que uno eligió.»
MT.: ¿Cómo te ves dentro de 10 años?
J.B.: «Tocando, girando, mas viejo, pero mas joven!»
MT.: ¿Una banda nacional e internacional?J.B.: «Cruel adicción. AC/DC»
MT.: ¿Un guitarrista a quién admires profundamente?
J.B.: «Para admirar profundamente, tendría que conocer a la persona que hay detras del guitarrista, cosa que no ha sucedido hasta el momento con ninguno de mis guitarristas favoritos... Asi que solo tengo admiración por sus trabajos.»
MT.: ¿Un artista con quién querrías compartir escenario?
J.B.: «Muchos!!! Y eso que tuve suerte de compartir con un montón de artistas ! Me faltan, Metallica y Megadeth para mi cartón lleno ! (risas)
Pero mi sueño mas grande sería tocar en un G3 con Joe (risas), pero claro, eso es imposible!»

MT.: ¿Cómo ha sido la experiencia de acompañar a TARJA en su paso por Latinoamérica?
J.B.: «Muy buena, Excelente diría. He recorrido muchos países geniales, he conocido durante el tour a mucha gente notable, y sin lugar a dudas, haber compartido la banda con terribles monstruos como Mike Terrana y Doug Wimbish fue la cereza del postre.»

MT.: ¿Cómo fue el proceso de adaptación a nivel musical y personal dentro del grupo?
J.B.: «En lo personal, al principio estaba nervioso obviamente, pero poco a poco con el correr de las horas en el primer ensayo, nos empezamos a divertir con la música y todo salió genial... a los pocos días ya me sentía una parte del grupo como si fuera desde hace mucho! Son gente maravillosa y muy humilde, por lo cual me senti muy a gusto.»
MT.: ¿Cuál es tu opinión, luego de haber realizado la gira “WLB América Tour 2011”, acerca del público en general que sigue a TARJA?
J.B.: «Un público muy fervoroso y muy demostrativo, TARJA emociona mucho a sus fans y es increible verles las caras de placer mientras la escuchan cantar. TARJA es una gran artista, no cualquiera logra eso. Un honor que me haya elegido para acompañarla a transmitir eso en su público, me siento muy honrado con eso.»
MT.: ¿Que opinás acerca del prejuicio que existe -especialmente en América Latina- respecto al ejercicio de la música de manera profesional y que le dirías a un chico/a que está considerando como carrera pero que no tiene apoyo en su decisión?
J.B.: «Ser músico profesional, lleva mas esfuerzo que estudiar cualquier carrera en la universidad con salida inmediata en lo laboral, por ende les diría que no se coman el "VERSO DEL ROCK STAR" por que no existen ya. Son uno en un millón que logran algo sin esfuerzo, y en general es porque tienen plata para pagar publicidad y autogestionarse, aunque lo que hagan sea una basura. Toquen, estudien, muestrense todo el tiempo. Compongan mil canciones, porque solo 10 de esas mil va a ser un HIT.»
MT.: ¿Tenés algún proyecto en solitario en un futuro cercano?
J.B.: «Si, pienso sacar un disco instrumental con las influencias mencionadas. Me encanta eso, solo que hasta ahora no tuve el tiempo.»
MT.: ¿Cómo fue el proceso en estudio durante la colaboración que realizaste en “I FEEL IMMORTAL” y como segunda guitarra en “FALLING AWAKE”?
J.B.: «Bueno primero grabe el demo en mi HOME ESTUDIO, hasta lograr la conformidad de TARJA y su productor y luego fui a estudios LA NAVE DE OSBERG aqui en Argentina a grabar las guitarras junto al Técnico de Sonido MARTIN TOLEDO. Fueron 3 canciones en las que colaboré en el álbum. También grabé e hice junto a TARJA la versión de STILL OF THE NIGHT. He utilizado para grabar todo esto mi IBANEZ UV777 con mi cabezal MESA BOOGIE DUAL RECTIFIER y mi Whammy Digitech.»
MT.: ¿Algún mensaje que quieras enviar a tus fans a través de MUNDO TARJISTA?
J.B.: «La mejor de las ondas por entrevistarme y dar a conocer un poco de mi trabajo !
Los espero en los shows de BARILARI, LORIHEN, ASSPERA o TARJA ! ! ! ! ! !»
