Hemos tenido la oportunidad de contactar con TARJA TURUNEN, quién es indudablemente una de las artistas finlandesas más conocidas en el mundo entero, para que nos cuente más sobre su carrera, sus gustos y su música.
TARJA TURUNEN alcanzó la fama internacional como cantante de la banda de metal NIGHTWISH (siendo todavía añorada por multitud de sus fans tras su salida de la misma) como por su exitosa carrera en solitario. Desde principios de 2012, TARJA se encuentra de gira después de lanzar su álbum WHAT LIES BENEATH, presentando conciertos en toda Europa, desde Moscú hasta Portugal antes de visitar América Latina donde ofrecerá conciertos en México, Costa Rica y Argentina. Anteriormente, en diciembre de 2011 la cantante lanzó su álbum navideño HARUS en CD/DVD realizando conciertos dentro de Finlandia.

¡Gracias por atendernos TARJA! Has tenido un verano muy ocupado. ¿Cuál de tus conciertos es el que sientes que ha sido el más importante del verano?
«¡Un placer! Justo escribí en mi blog hace pocos días que este ha sido el mejor verano de mi carrera hasta la fecha. He podido actuar en diferentes conciertos y afrontar diversos retos, una cosa que adoro. Es difícil elegir uno, pero me quedo con el concierto junto a José Cura en el Festival de Ópera de Savonlinna en Finlandia. Fue un honor cantar junto a él.»
¿Te preparas de manera diferente para cantar en un concierto de heavy metal que en uno de música clásica?
«Estos estilos son muy diferentes, así que sí, mi preparación también difiere. Todavía me siento más nerviosa al cantar música clásica, porque era algo que no había hecho profesionalmente antes de que mi carrera en el rock floreciera. Antes de un concierto de música clásica hago ejercicios de respiración y vocalizo mucho más que antes de uno de rock. Necesito estar segura de que voy a dar lo mejor. También me enfoco en las partes técnicas del programa que vaya a realizar. Aún hoy sigo tomando lecciones privadas de canto, es algo vital para mí. En un concierto de rock puedo divertirme más y hacer lo que me apetezca en el momento. Y el público me da mucha energía.»
TARJA TURUNEN tiene muchos seguidores en América Latina que la apoyan mucho.
Eres la primera artista finlandesa en conseguir disco de oro en Alemania tanto en solitario como perteneciendo a una banda. ¿Cuáles son las ventajas de una carrera en solitario?¿Y por otra parte, echas algo de menos de tu época en NIGHTWISH?
«Es muy diferente cuando tienes que empezar una carrera en solitario que cuando estás en una banda ya asentada y conocida. Tuve que encontrar mi propio camino en el mundo de la música, y no fue fácil, pero estoy muy contenta de haber pasado por todo ello. Definitivamente me siento más cómoda ahora que nunca antes. La libertad que tengo para elegir la gente con la que colaboro, escribir y producir canciones es increíble. No tengo que luchar con fronteras o egos, porque soy yo la que toma las decisiones. Y no, no hecho particularmente nada de menos de mis años con la banda.»
Pasando tanto tiempo fuera de tu país, ¿qué te gusta hacer cuando regresas a Finlandia?
«Cuando vuelvo a Finlandia, me gusta ir a ver a mi familia en Carelia del Norte, porque les echo mucho de menos fuera. Nos reímos mucho, cocinamos, vamos a la sauna y disfrutamos de la compañía. También me gusta salir a correr por el campo, si el tiempo lo permite.»
Compartiste escenario con Angra en el festival Rock in Rio de Brasil. ¿Cómo surgió la colaboración?
«¡Fue increíble poder estar en el Rock In Río! Conozco a los miembros de Angra desde hace años y colaboré con su guitarrista Kiko Loureiro en mi primer disco. Me invitaron a unirme y no dudé en decir que sí. No canté todo el concierto con ellos, sino solo algunas canciones como artista invitada. Fue muy divertido tocar juntos y encontrarme con mis queridos fans brasileños. Tengo importantes club de fans en Brasil que me apoyan mucho.»
¿Y te queda algún artista con el que soñarías colaborar algún día?
«¡Peter Gabriel es mi héroe! Lo tiene todo, la voz, el carisma, la gran carrera… Todos nosotros necesitamos tener sueños, ¿verdad?»

We had the opportunity to connect with TARJA TURUNEN, who is undoubtedly one of the most famous Finnish artists in the world, to tell us more about his career and his music tastes.
Tarja Turunen achieved international fame as lead singer of metal band NIGHTWISH (while still missed by his many fans after leaving it) as for his successful solo career. Since early 2012, Tarja is on tour after releasing their album WHAT LIES BENEATH, presenting concerts throughout Europe, from Moscow to Portugal before visiting Latin America that offer concerts in Mexico, Costa Rica and Argentina. Previously, in December 2011 the singer released her holiday album HARUS CD/DVD performing concerts in Finland.
TARJA TURUNEN achieved a successful solo career.
Thank you for attending TARJA! You had a busy summer. Which of your concerts is that you feel has been the biggest summer?
«A pleasure! I wrote in my blog just few days ago that this was the best summer of my career to date. I have acted in different concerts and cope with various challenges, one thing I love. It's hard to choose one, but I prefer the concert with José Cura in the Savonlinna Opera Festival in Finland. It was an honor to sing with him.»
Do you prepare differently for singing in a heavy metal concert in a classical music?
«These styles are very different, so yes, my preparation also differs. I still feel more nervous to sing classical music, because it was something I had not done professionally before my career in rock flourish. Before a concert of classical music do breathing exercises and vocalize more than a rock before. I need to be sure I will do better. I also focused on the technical parts of the program to be undertaken. Even today I'm taking private lessons in singing, is vital for me. At a rock concert and I can have more fun doing what I want at the moment. And the audience gives me great energy.»
TARJA TURUNEN has many followers in Latin America that are very supportive.
You are the first Finnish artist to achieve gold status in Germany, both solo as belonging to a gang. What are the advantages of a solo career? And on the other hand, you miss something less of your time in NIGHTWISH?
«It's very different when you have to start a solo career when you're in a band already established and known. I had to find my own way in the world of music, and it was not easy, but I'm very glad I went through all this. I definitely feel more comfortable now than ever before. The freedom I have to choose the people you collaborate, write and produce songs is incredible. I have to fight not to borders or egos, it's me who makes the decisions. And no, it made it particularly anything less from my years with the band.»
Spending so much time out of your country, what you enjoy doing when you come to Finland?
«When I return to Finland, I like going to see my family in North Karelia, because they really miss out. We laughed a lot, cook, go to the sauna and enjoy the company. I also like to go running down the field, weather permitting.»
Angra shared the stage with the Rock in Rio festival in Brazil. How did the collaboration?
«It was amazing to be at the Rock In Rio! I know members of Angra years and collaborated with guitarist Kiko Loureiro on my first album. I was invited to join and did not hesitate to say yes. I did not sing the entire concert with them, but only a few songs as guest artist. It was very fun to play together and meet my dear Brazilian fans. I have important club in Brazil fans very supportive.»
What is an artist you would dream to collaborate with someday?
«Peter Gabriel is my hero! It has everything, voice, charisma, great career ... We all need to dream, right?»
