Tuvimos la oportunidad de entrevistar a TARJA TURUNEN telefónicamente,
recibimos una llamada de la compañía disquera, y luego nos comunicaron a TARJA;
después de una pocas frases de cortesía, la entrevista empezó, y es justo ahora
al colgar el teléfono, tengo que decir que es una persona muy agradable, divertida
y fácil de llevar y muy comunicativa y con buenas respuestas. Incluso me dijo
adiós en sueco al final de la entrevista.
Lanzará su cuarto álbum en solitario el próximo año,
¿qué podemos esperar?
«Me ha tomado mucho tiempo escribir nuevo material, para llegar a nuestras
canciones y después haremos una gira desde enero hasta abril, que tengo en
mente para empezar a grabar de nuevo, en mayo tal vez. He pensado mucho en
escribir de nuevo, y habrá una mezcla de canciones rock, canciones sinfónicas y
canciones de miedo como se ha hecho antes, un poco loco (risas).»
¿Ha comenzado el proyecto Harus, lanzará
un álbum?
«Hemos lanzado un álbum en vivo (Harus - In Concert - Live at the Sibelius Hall,
2009), y se ha hecho muy popular, pero hemos tocado juntos desde 2006, por lo
que no es precisamente nuevo, pero se pensó en lanzar el álbum en vivo para
llegar a un público más amplio, a pesar de que ya tenemos muchos fans. No hemos
previsto una fecha exacta para grabar un álbum en estudio, pero estamos en esa
etapa. Y es muy agradable de presentar nuestra música en las iglesias, y con
instrumentos como el órgano, que realmente se adaptan a esa atmósfera.»
También ha hecho algunos conciertos de
ópera en los últimos años, ¿es algo que seguirá haciendo?
«¡Eso espero! Creo que es muy divertido reunir a los dos mundos, el metal y la
ópera y así construir puentes entre ellos. Ya me he presentado con piezas
clásicas, hice un concierto en Bulgaria, y la combinación de la ópera y el coro
funcionaron muy bien, por lo que espero hacer una gira de este tipo en el año 2013.»
Y en los últimos años ha estudiado en diferentes escuelas
de música, ¿ha pensado alguna vez de enseñar a los demás?
«¡Lo he hecho! (risas). Yo he dado
clases particulares y he tenido muy pocos estudiantes, ha sido difícil en los
últimos años porque he estado muy ocupada, y hay que aprovechar el tiempo
cuando se logra estar en casa por lo menos 2 semanas. Tengo que decir que se
aprende mucho de los alumnos, y la relación entre alumnos y profesores es muy
delicada y especial.»
Sabemos que pueden cantar ópera y sabemos que se puede
cantar en una banda de metal sinfónico poder, ¿hay algún otro género o estilo
que le gustaría probar?
«Hay que estar en constante
desarrollo, en cuanto a la técnica, la voz, diferentes estilos y poder, y continuamente
tratando de dar notas altas. Es muy diferente cantar ópera y rock, durante un
show de rock, se hace difícil, porque es más físico… corriendo por el escenario
en un concierto de rock durante 2 largas, mientras que cantando ópera te quedas
quieto (risas). Me siento muy cansada después de los shows, por lo que trato de
mantenerme en forma.»
¿Cuál es la mayor diferencia entre escribir canciones
en finlandés y en inglés?
«Creo que soy muy mala en escribir
canciones en finlandés (risas), hay muchos otros compositores finlandeses que
son mejores, así que es un poco humillante. Siento que se pone mucho de la
parte personal, pero prefiero estar cerca de el texto, en realidad no debe
quedar claro qué trata la canción.»
Haz hecho un álbum de navidad e incluso diversas
colaboraciones, la Navidad, ¿es una época especial para usted?
«A lo largo de mi carrera he vivido
mucho tiempo fuera de mi país, mi casa Finlandia, así que ahora que estoy aquí,
me siento más cercana a mi familia. Después de la muerte de mi madre, se ha vuelto
aún más importante pasar tiempo con la familia y estar juntos en cualquier
lugar del mundo y celebrar la Navidad, juntos es especial. Amo mucho a mi
familia y los echo de menos cuando se van, pero con el Internet y Skype en
especial, se vuelve más personal y realmente puedo tener video conversaciones
con ellos desde casa, es muy diferente de cuando sólo se podía enviar e-mails. Por
otra parte, me encanta cocinar y comer (risas) la comida navideña y también a
cantar, especialmente en las iglesias.»
Sabemos que canta y que toca el piano, ¿hay algún otro
instrumento que le gustaría aprender a tocar?
«Ahora, no soy tan
buena tocando el piano (risas),
empecé a tocar muy joven, pero ahora
estoy
“bien”. También
toqué la flauta en mi juventud, y
justamente le dije a mi marido el otro
día que me gustaría aprender a tocar
el violonchelo. Yo quería cuando
era más joven, pero no había maestros entonces, y cuando empecé a
tocar
la
flauta
en
lugar del violonchelo. Creo que ese
instrumento tiene un sonido muy agradable, es muy bello y lo
hemos incluido también en mi música.»

Release her fourth solo album next year, what can we expect?
«It has taken me long to write new material, to get to our songs and then do a tour from January to April, I have in mind to start recording again, perhaps in May. I've thought about writing again, and there will be a mix of rock songs, songs, symphonies and songs of fear as has been done before, a little crazy (laughs).»
Have you started the project Harus will release an album?
«We have released a live album (HARUS - In Concert - Live at the Sibelius Hall, 2009), and has become very popular, but we have played together since 2006, so it is not exactly new, but it was thought to launch the Live album to reach a wider audience, even though we already have many fans. We have not provided an exact date to record a studio album, but we are at that stage. And it's nice to present our music in the churches, and with instruments like the organ, which really suits the atmosphere.»
He has also done some opera concerts in recent years, is something that will continue?
«I hope so! I think it's great fun to bring the two worlds, the metal and opera and build bridges between them. I have already presented with classical pieces, I did a concert in Bulgaria, and the combination of opera and chorus worked very well, so I hope to do a tour of its kind in the year 2013.»
And in recent years been studied in different schools of music, have you ever thought of teaching others?
«I have! (Laughs). I have given private lessons and have had very few students, it has been difficult in recent years because I have been very busy, and you have to use the time when it manages to be at home for at least 2 weeks. I have to say that you learn a lot of students, and the relationship between students and teachers is very delicate and special.»
We know you can sing opera and know you can sing in a symphonic metal band power, is there any other genre or style you would like to try?
«We must be constantly evolving in terms of technique, voice, different styles and power, and continually trying to give high grades. It's very different rock opera and singing for a rock show, it is difficult, because it is more physical ... running across the stage at a rock concert for 2 long, while you stand still singing opera (laughs). I feel very tired after the shows, so try to stay in shape.»
What is the biggest difference between writing songs in Finnish and English?
«I think I'm very bad at writing songs in Finnish (laughs), there are many other Finnish composers are better, so it's a little humiliating. I feel like it puts a lot of the staff, but I prefer to be close to the text, should not really be clear what the song is about.»
You've done a Christmas album and even several collaborations, Christmas, is a special time for you?
«Through out my career I have lived a long time out of my country, my home Finland, so now I'm here, I feel closer to my family. After the death of my mother, has become even more important to spend time with family and being together anywhere in the world and celebrate Christmas together is special. I love my family very much and miss them when they leave, but with the Internet and Skype in particular, becomes more personal and really I can have video conversations with them from home, is very different from when you could only send e-mails . On the other hand, I love to cook and eat (laughs) Christmas food and also to sing, especially in the churches.»
We know who sings and plays piano, is there another instrument you would like to learn to play?
«Now, I'm not good at the piano (laughs), I started playing very young, but now I'm "okay". I also played the flute in my youth, and just told my husband the other day that I would learn to play the cello. I wanted when I was younger, but there were no teachers then, and when I started playing the flute instead of the cello. I believe that this instrument has a sound very nice, very beautiful and we have also included in my music.»
